Converse Softball Travels to Georgia for Columbus State Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C – The Converse softball team will travel to Columbus, Ga. for the Columbus State Tournament on February 11 and 12 to face the University of Montevallo, Coker University and Union University.

The Series:
This will be the first time that Converse has faced Montevallo and Union. Converse and Coker have faced each eight times with this meeting being the ninth. Coker holds an 8-0 record over Converse with their last victories over the Valkyries being scores of 8-4 and 8-0 during last year's season.
 
Converse Notes:
  • The Valkyries are 0-4 this season, dropping doubleheaders to UVA Wise and Limestone.
  • Converse is going into this tournament after losing to Limestone on Tuesday afternoon. In the first game, the Saints defeated the Valkyries 13-0. In the second game, Converse fell 6-5 after attempting a comeback in the 7th inning.
  • Abbigale Outlaw and Brooke Scruggs lead the team in at-bats (11). Maggie Griffis and Emily Ingle each have 2 RBI's on the season.
  • Reagan Owens leads Converse in innings pitched (9.2) and strikeouts (11). She is followed by Serrah Ballard who has pitched 5.2 innings and Daija Irizarry who has 3 strikeouts.
Montevallo Notes:
  • The Falcons are 2-2 this season after dropping two games and picking up two wins at the Gulf Coast Invitational.
  • In the tournament, they picked up wins against Drury (8-5) and Palm Beach Atlantic (3-1) and lost to Rollins College (3-4) and Lubbock Christian (1-6).
  • Sierra Easterwood and Hannah Carey lead Montevallo with 13 at-bats. Taylor Robinson has a team-high 5 RBI's.
  • Marby Norris has pitched 9.2 inning for the Falcons and recorded 5 strikeouts. Mychael McMillin has pitched 8.2 innings with a team-high 9 strikeouts.
Coker Notes:
  • Coker is 1-3 this season, picking up their first win on the season against North Greeneville on February 5. They dropped the first game of the series to North Greenville 9-0 in five innings.
  • In their first win, Makayla Cuthbertson and Ava Jay each scored a run for the Cobras.
  • Cuthbertson and Chloe Pelham lead the team in at-bats (12). Three girls are tied for most RBI's on the team, all with two on the season thus far: Kayla Oswell, Delaney Evans and Bailey Douglas.
  • Callie Thornton has pitched a team-high 11 innings, recording 9 strikeouts in the process. Isabelle Mullen follows her with 7 innings pitched and 8 strikeouts.
Union Notes:
  • Union is 1-3 this season, picking up their first win of the season against Palm Beach Atlantic by a score of 4-1 in the Gulf Shores Tournament.
  • Four different players scored for the Bulldogs in their win. Macey Neal scored in the second, Fallon Groves scored in the third, and Grace White and Harley Bartholomew each scored in the fourth.
  • Neal leads Union with 14 at-bats, recording 5 hits and 2 RBI's while doing so. White also has 2 RBI's on the season so far.
  • Taylor Reese was the winning pitcher in the Bulldogs game against Palm Atlantic Beach. She has pitched 10 innings and recorded 7 strikeouts. Laken DiStefano follows her with 6.2 innings pitched and 3 strikeouts.
