Valkyries Win 6th Straight, Set or Tie 12 School Records in Regular Season

Spartanburg, SC- The Converse team officially concluded their regular season on a six match conference win streak with a 7-0 win over King. The win allows a small gap of time to reflect on the season, while having eyes toward the upcoming conference tournament.
Over the season, this group set nine single season records and three career records. The list starts with team achievement. Converse ended the season with the best winning percentage in program history with 57.1%. They also finished with a 60% win percentage in conference play, also a program mark. The final team record broken is longest winning streak. The ongoing six match win streak is the longest in program history.
There are also no shortages of individual accolades and records earned and broken by this team. Starting with today's little bit of history, Tonya Glogowski-Watson broke a tie for most wins at the number 2 position with a 6-1 6-0 victory over King, her 7th of the season. Marleen Prinz set multiple records as well. Prinz set the school record for most wins at the number 4 singles position with 10. She also set the school record for singles winning percentage in a season, regardless of position, with an 84.6% win rate. Fellow freshman, Anna Klasson actually broke the previous record of 75% with her 76.9% win rate, and the freshman tandem finish 1 and 2 for the single season record. Valentina Aparicio and Glogowski-Watson finished the seasons with a 57.1% each, both good for top 5 individual seasons in school history as well. Aparicio also tied the mark the most wins at the number 6 position with 6, marking the seventh set record.
Maria Belen Vendrell and Marleen Prinz had a spectacular season at the number 2 doubles spot, setting two school records together. They posted 9 wins in the position, the most ever for a number 2 pair. They also finished the season with a 76.9% win rate, breaking the former record for win percentage of 66.7%.
Vendrell comes in with a tie for 3rd place for most wins in a season at the number 1 spot, while Klasson moved into 2nd place for wins at the number 5 spot. All of these individual records are even more impressive because of the shortened season due to Covid regulations from the NCAA on number of matches allowed. The Valkyries played a 44% shorter season than that of most seasons.
The final three records all come in from Taylor Parrott, who will wrap up her stellar career after the post-season. Parrott tied the program for most wins in singles with 28 wins. Her vital win to clinch the match against Barton late in the season tied her in this category. Parrott also finished her career with a whopping 40 doubles wins, shattering the previous record of 29. This give Parrott a win total of 68, setting a new record for total wins. The previous record was 58 victories.
Converse also locked up a tie for 4th place in conference play and enters the tournament as the 5th seed, the highest in school history. The travel to Sumter, SC to open tournament play on Friday, April 23. Details on the tournament, bracket, and times will be announced early this week.
"We really have had a special year. From our president and athletic director even allowing us to play to our trainers and strength coaches helping our ladies prepare, it has been a team effort everywhere. Of course, what really made this regular season and year special was the girls and their work ethic and the love they have for each other. They brought it every single day and no matter what we had prepared for them, they wanted an even tougher problem to tackle. They love each other so much too. That was so evident from our matches. Anybody that saw them could tell the passion they had for one another. I know they are happier for each other's success than their own. It is just that kind of special group. We are lucky to have them represent us," Coach Poda said of the year.
