WINGATE, N.C. – The Converse (5-6) College lacrosse team was defeated by Wingate (5-7) University in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon at Graham Gill Field. Wingate pitched a shutout in the first half (6-0), before outscoring the Valkyries 9-2 in the second to take the win.

The early part of the opening period was a defensive tussle as both offenses were slow out of the gate. However, Kendell Wells connected on back-to-back scores at the 23:10 and 20:44 marks to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Paige Kamer posted two scores of her own to double the lead before Wells added her third of the half. Emily Ketron tallied a score with just over a minute to play before halftime to send Wingate into the locker room leading 6-0.

A quick score from the home team led to Converse's first goal of the contest when Kat Goldfuss put home a free position shot to get the Vals on the board with 26 minutes remaining in the contest. However, Wingate reeled off six unanswered goals over the next 12 minutes of game action to push ahead 13-1. Sharlize Burgos ended the streak with a free position goal at the 10:17 mark, but Wingate posted the final two goals of the game to take the 15-2 win.

Converse will be back in action on Saturday, April 6, playing host to Barton in Conference Carolinas action at Hayden Abney Fulp Field. That contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
