Valkyries Fall at Mount Olive During Regular Season Finale

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Converse College (7-9, 4-6 CC) lacrosse team lost its regular season finale to Mount Olive (12-5, 9-1 CC) by the score of 18-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans built a 10-2 lead in the first half and never looked back, taking the Conference Carolinas win.

Mount Olive scored the first three goals of the game before Flore Samsi connected on a free position shot at the 16:36 mark to cut the deficit to 3-1. After another score by the Trojans, Samsi collected her second goal of the contest, this time cutting the Trojan lead in half (4-2). However, UMO tallied the final six goals of the first half to take a 10-2 lead into the break.

A Nola Wesche goal for Mount Olive extend the lead to 11-2, but Mercedes Dempsey rifled in an unassisted goal just minutes later. UMO used three consecutive goals to push out to a double-digit lead (14-3), before Sharlize Burgos posted her only score of the contest. From that point Mount Olive outscored the Valkyries 4-0 to take the 18-4 win.

Converse will take the No. 8 seed into the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championships. The Valkyries will take on No. 1 seed Limestone on Monday, April 22 during first round action in Gaffney, S.C.
