Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. – Offense was at a premium for the Valkyries on Tuesday afternoon as they fell 8-0 in both games of a doubleheader against the Tornado of King University (19-15, 6-4 CC). Converse is now 2-40 overall and 0-12 within the league.
GAME ONE: CONVERSE 0, KING 8
The Tornado built a 3-0 lead with singles runs in the first three innings of the contest. Hannah Riddle and Summer Hayes both went deep for King to account for two of the runs. Following a scoreless fourth for both teams both squads, King blew the game open and run-ruled the Valkyries with a 5-run fifth inning.
Allison Plafcan and Mackenzie Wenz collected the only two hits during game one, while Jianna Pellegrino pitched 4.1 innings and allowed eight runs (six earned), taking the tough loss.
GAME TWO: CONVERSE 0, KING 8
King jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but starting pitcher Marissa Steadman settled in and did not allow a run over the next two innings, allowing Converse to remain in the contest. However, the Valkyries could not muster any offense through the first four innings and King took advantage in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring three runs in each to defeat the Purple and Gold by the same 8-0 score.
Jena Massing, McKayla Davis, Kayla Gilfillan, and Wenz all tallied hits for the Valkyries in the loss. Steadman fell to 1-18 on the season as she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up eight runs (four earned), facing 32 batters. The Converse defense committed three errors in game two, helping King score four unearned runs.
Converse will be back on the diamond Friday, April 6 as it travels to Due West, S.C. to take on the Flying Fleet of Erskine College. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
