GREENEVILLE, TENN. - The Converse Lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest against Tusculum on Thursday evening on the road 19-13.

Laura Starkes recorded her third straight hat-trick to open the season.  Starkes added six goals to her tally on the season tying her single-game career-high.

Brittni Jones added a hat-trick in the contest.  Elizabeth Gabriele netted two goals.  Aubrie Lauderdale scored once and added three assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half

Converse started off the contest scoring back-to-back goals by Laura Starkes to open up a 2-0 lead on the Pioneers.  Starkes scored 1:56 into the match off the pass from Aubrie Lauderdale.  Starkes scored thirty seconds later off the pass from Elizabeth Gabriele.

Tusculum countered with three goals to regain the lead 3-2.  Brittni Jones ended the Pioneer rally with a free position goal.

Kailtin Milde tied things at four on a free position goal midway through the half.  Laura Starkes netted her third hat-trick of the season at the 13:35 mark of the half to give the Valkyries a 5-4 advantage.

Tusculum scored two unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead before Brittni Jones scored for the tie.

Tusculum led 7-6 heading into the halftime break.

2nd Half

Coming out of the half, Tusculum used a seven goal stretch to take a commanding 14-6 lead midway through the half.

Converse would cut the deficit to 15-11 after going on a 5-1 run.  Brittni Jones and Elizabeth Gabriele scored in a 75 second span to start the rally.  

Laura Starkes scored off the dish from Aubrie Lauderdale to cut it to a five goal contest.  Tusculum added a goal to halt the rally.

Aubrie Lauderdale and Laura Starkes netted goals to end the run.  

Elizabeth Gabriele and Laura Starkes scored in the final minute to end the scoring for the Valkyries.

The Valkyries travel to face Montreat in a non-conference contest on the road.  The contest is Wednesday February 22 at 3pm.
