Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse had a chance to tie things up as the buzzer sounded but was denied as North Greenville handed the Valkyries a 9-8 loss on senior night on Thursday evening.
Jessi Walters ripped a shot towards the cage before the buzzer sounded but the shot was kept out of the back of the net by NGU's keeper.
Elizabeth Gabriele led the Valkyries with a hat-trick. Jessi Walters and Chelsea Worrell netted two goals apiece. Aubrie Lauderdale and Kasey Halodik tallied two assists each.
Laura Starkes put the Valkyries on the board first just 2:31 into the match with an unassisted goal.
Chelsea Worrell would score back-to-back goals assisted by Jessi Walters and Kasey Halodik would put the Valkyries up 3-2 midway through the half.
NGU would respond with two goals to go up 4-3 with 11:04 left in the first half.
Elizabeth Gabriele would net her first goal of the hat-trick with 7:40 left off the dish by Brittni Jones to knot things at 4-all.
With 3.4 seconds left in the half Gabriele netted her second goal of the half off the hail mary pass from Aubrie Lauderdale to send the contest into the half at 5-5.
Converse continued their attack in the second half seeing their advantage move to 8-5 just under 20 minutes left to play. Jessi Walters scored off the assist from Lauderdale followed by Gabriele netting her hat-trick goal off the pass from Laura Starkes.
Jessi Walters put the Valkyries up 8-5 with 18:04 left in the contest off the assist from Kasey Halodik.
NGU countered with three goals of their own to tie things at 8-all with 5:06 left in regulation.
The Crusaders would take the lead with 2:02 left in regulation as NGU's Kennington found the back of the net for the 9-8 lead.
As time was winding down, Jennifer Barksdale took the ball from the far end of the field and found Jessi Walters at the top of the eight as Walters ripped the shot before the NGU save.
Kasey Halodik had six caused turnovers and a team high nine ground balls. Ashlei Alston chipped in with nine caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Sandra Ponce finished with five ground balls and nine saves in the cage. Lisa Carter tallied a ground ball and a caused turnover.
The Valkyries end the season with a record of 3-11 overall and 2-6 in Conference Carolinas play.
