Box Score 2 SPARTANBURG, S.C.- In the final home doubleheader of the season, the Converse softball team picked up a non-conference split against the visiting Brevard Tornados, falling in game one 3-0 and picking up the 2-0 win in the night cap.
Converse improves to 6-31 on the season while Brevard moves to 20-33.
Marissa Steadman (Pauline, S.C.) did more than pitch in the night cap going 3-3 at the plate and picked up the win in the circle. Bri Putnam (Chesnee, S.C.) tallied two hits in the win.
Steadman moves to 6-23 on the season in the circle pitching a complete game shutout scattering five hits.
Converse wraps up it's inaugural season on the road with the final doubleheader of the year against Conferencec Carolinas foe Barton on Saturday, April 23.
Game One: Converse 0, Brevard 3
Brevard struck first in the first game picking up a run in the top of the first thanks to two passed balls in the inning.
Converse held Brevard at bay until the top of the fifth, where the Tornados added some insurance runs to take a 3-0 lead.
The Valkyries were held to one hit in the contest. Anna Bennett (Fulton, Md.) sent a shot towards third base and scampered into the outfield in the bottom of the second inning.
Game Two: Converse 2, Brevard 0
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings of play before the Valkyries scratched across the only runs of the contest. Bri Putnam singled up the middle to start the rally. Marissa Steadman and Maddy Lukens (Chandler, Ariz.) reached on infield bunt singles.
With bases loaded and no outs, Tristan Harvey (Anacoco, La.) singled to left field pushing Putnam across for the first run of the game. Anna Bennett would push across the final run of the contest reaching on a fielder's choice as Steadman scored before the throw at home.
Brevard had a chance in the top of the fourth to push across a run but Steadman pitched out of the jam. Steadman limited the Tornado bats in the latter innings not allowing a base runner the final three innings.
