SPARTANBURG, S.C.- In the final home match for Converse Tennis, the Valkyries came up short against Belmont Abbey, 7-2, in a Conference Carolinas match on Thursday afternoon.
Converse drops to 6-12 on the season and 2-7 in league play, while Belmont Abbey improves to 7-15 and 4-5 in league play.
Kaitlin Knight (Sumter, S.C.) picked up the win in the number three singles for the lone win in singles competition. Knight won 6-2, 6-4.
Knight and teammate Margaret Pridmore (Wodonga, Australia) picked up the other win at the first doubles winning 8-2.
Pridmore won the first set at the number two singles 6-2, before Crusader's Cox rallied back to take the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-7.
Doubles partners Alex Schlesener (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Samantha Sheffield (Birmingham, Ala.) battled back down 7-2 to eventually fall 8-5.
The Valkyries return to action Sunday, April 17 against Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas clash. Converse currently sits in 8th place in the conference standings and will look to move up in the standings heading towards the Conference Carolinas Championships in two weeks.
