Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.- Converse dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas softball contests to Mount Olive on the road on Tuesday afternoon, 8-1 and 9-1 (5). Converse drops to 6-18 on the season and 1-9 in Conference Carolinas play. Mount Olive improved to 19-15 and 5-3.
Anna Bennett (Fulton, Md.) went 2-2 with the program's first home run along with two walks and a RBI. Kelsie Land (Keller, Texas) picked up three hits and a RBI. Five other Valkyries recorded one hit apiece.
Converse is expected to play Conference Carolinas foe Emmanuel on Thursday March 31 in Franklin Springs, Ga.
Game One: Converse 1, Mount Olive 8
Both teams went three-up three-down in the first inning to start off the afternoon. Converse picked up the first hit of the contest in the top of the second off the bat of Kelsie Land with a base knock through the left side of the infield. Land moved to second on the groundout but was left stranded.
UMO scored in the bottom half of the second leading off with a double. A ground out and an error allowed the Trojans to scratch across the first run of the game.
Mount Olive added two runs in the bottom of the third picking up three stolen bases in the inning and scoring on the Valkyries' miscues to take a 3-0 lead.
Anna Bennett notched her first career home run in the top of the fifth for the lone run of the contest for Converse.
The Trojans exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning posting five runs off six hits to take an 8-1 lead.
Game Two: Converse 1, Mount Olive 9
Converse started off the game picking up a single by Tristan Harvey (Anacoco, La.). A ground out followed by a single by Kelsie Land scored the first run for the Valkyries.
Mount Olive responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead 3-1.
Anna Bennett drew a walk to start the second inning. A fielder's choice and a double by Bri Putnam (Chesnee, S.C.) put runners at second and third but were left stranded.
UMO took a 4-1 lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Bennett singled through the left side starting the bottom of the fourth. Savanna Fain (Inman, S.C.) doubled to right center with one out put runners in scoring position but the Valkyries failed to score.
Shelby Bullock (Horseshoe Beach, Fla.) doubled followed by Kelsie Land's single put runners in scoring position but was left stranded to end the top of the fifth.
The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take game two of the twin bill 9-1.
