WILSON, N.C.- The Converse Tennis team picked up the first Conference Carolinas victory of the season against Barton with a 5-4 win on the road Saturday morning.
Samantha Sheffield (Birmingham, Ala.) sealed the win for the Valkyries in the fourth singles after both teams won four matches. Sheffield dropped the first set 6-1 but rallied to win the second 7-5 to force the final set. Sheffield won 6-1 to give the Valkyries the final match for the win.
Sheffield and Alex Schelesner (Stone Mountain, Ga.) picked up the first win for the Valkyries in the second doubles winning 8-2. Klaire Rouse (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Taylor Littlejohn-Barr (York, S.C.) picked up another doubles point winning the third doubles 8-1.
Littlejohn-Barr extended the lead for the Valkyries at the fifth slot winning in straight sets. Klaire Rouse won at the sixth singles winning 6-0, 6-3. Barton picked up wins at the top of the line-up to knot things up at 4-all before Sheffield's victory at the fourth singles.
Converse continues their road trip on Wednesday, March 23 against Conference Carolinas foe King.
