Box Score 2 HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Converse Softball team posted a season-high runs in both games of the doubleheader but fell 11-3, 11-3 to Coker on the road in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
Converse (0-4) was led offensively by Anna Bennett (Fulton, Md.) going 3-5 from the plate with four RBI. Bennett recorded the first ever RBI for the Valkyries in game one with a two RBI single in the top of the second inning.
Game One (11-3 (6))
In game one the Valkyries trailed 1-0 after one before grabbing the lead in the top half of the second inning. Mckayla Davis (Concord, N.C.) started off the inning drawing a walk. Shelby Bullock (Horseshoe Beach, Fla.) and Kelsie Land (Keller, Texas) picked up singles to load the bases. Anna Bennett singled to bring in the first runs for the Valkyries scoring Bullock and Davis.
Coker (4-0) would tie things up in the bottom of the second and regain the lead in the bottom of the third off a solo shot.
Converse would answer in the top of the fourth with a run to knot things at 3-all. Savanna Fain (Inman, S.C.) started off the inning with an extra base knock. Fain would later score on an errant throw after a ground out.
Coker posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings to take the 11-3 victory.
Shelby Bullock, Kelsie Land, and Anna Bennett went 2-3 in the contest.
Game Two (11-3 (5))
Coker posted two runs in the first and second inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Cobras would score seven in the bottom half of the third inning to push their lead to 11-0.
The Cobras held the Valkyries hitless through the first three innings before Converse found life in the top of the fourth. Morgan Marlow (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) drew a one out walk before M. Davis notched a seeing eye single up the middle for the first hit of the contest. With two outs, S. Bullock drew a walk to load the bases.
Converse would get on the board after K. Land drew a bases loaded walk. A. Bennett would add to her RBI total on the day with a 2 RBI single to score Bullock and Steadman. Bri Putnam (Chesnee, S.C.) added a single in the inning but couldn't plate another.
The Valkyries failed to score in the fifth to keep the game going as Coker took the 11-3 victory.
Next Up for Converse
The Valkyries will host St. Andrews for their first ever "home" doubleheader on February 13. There will be pregame festivities at 12:45pm with first pitch at 1pm. Converse will play at the Tyger River Complex in Duncan.
