Box Score DUE WEST, S.C.- The Converse Lacrosse team picked up their second league win of the season after defeating Erskine 13-6 in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.
Converse (3-2, 2-1) was led offensively by Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, Fla.) tying her career-high with six goals. Laura Starkes (Whitby, Ontario) netted four goals. Jessi Walters (Fort Mill, S.C.) tallied two assists.
The Valkyries started off the scoring with a Worrell unassisted goal. Worrell would net her second of the half less than three minutes later. Erskine (0-3, 0-1) would take the lead early at 3-2 with just over 17 minutes remaining in the half.
Converse rallied to post three straight goals to take the 5-3 lead. Brittni Jones (Lees Summit, Mo.) started the run on a free position goal followed by Laura Starkes with a FGP of her own. Worrell netted the first half hat-trick off the dish from Jessi Walters.
Erskine would net a goal at the 8:26 mark but Converse ended the first half with a goal by Starkes to lead 6-4 after the first thirty minutes of action.
The Valkyries exploded in the second half scoring seven goals to take a comfortable 13-4 lead. Laura Starkes netted her third goal on a man down situation. Brittni Jones and Kasey Halodik (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored on free position goals. Laura Starkes tallied her fourth goal on the afternoon before Chelsea Worrell went on a three goal spree to end the scoring.
Erskine added two goal to round out the scoring as Converse took the 13-6 victory in league play.
Converse returns home for a four game stretch with the Valkyries taking on Lawrence Tech on March 6. Opening draw is at 1pm.
