SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Valkyries lacrosse team picked up a non-conference victory over Chowan on a rainy Monday afternoon, 12-8.  Converse improved to 2-2 on the season, while dropping Chowan to 0-2.

Converse (2-2) picked up the victory behind hat-tricks by Brittni Jones (Lees Summit, Mo.) and Elizabeth Gabriele (Simpsonville, S.C.).  Aubrie Lauderdale (Greenville, S.C.) and Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, Fla.) netted two goals apiece.

Jessi Walters (Fort Mill, S.C.) picked up her second career victory in cage.  Walters stopped six of the 14 shots that came her way.  Kasey Halodik (Waxhaw, N.C.) posted a team-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Chowan (0-2) netted the first goal of the match just over a minute into the contest but the Valkyries responded with back-to-back goals to gain the lead.  Brittni Jones and Aubrie Lauderdale scored on unassisted goals to take the early 2-1 lead less than four minutes in.

The Hawks would tie things at 3-all midway through the first half before Converse used a 5-0 run to post an 8-3 advantage and never relinquish the lead.

Chelsea Worrell started off the scoring with a free position goal.  Elizabeth Gabriele followed suit with a FPG of her own.  Aubrie Lauderdale and Gabriele netted unassisted goals and Brittni Jones scored off the dish from Maria Knott (Ball Ground, Ga.) during the run.

Chowan netted two goals in the final 1:37 of the first half to close out the half trailing 8-5.

Converse outscored Chowan 4-3 in the second half.  Chowan came within two goals at the 22:15 mark of the second half, 9-7, but the Valkyries used a goal by Maria Knott and Brittni Jones to push the lead back to a comfortable distance.

The Valkyries jump back into Conference Carolinas play when they travel to Erskine on Saturday, February 27.
