SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse Tennis won it's third match in a row after defeating King 8-1 in a Conference Carolinas match on Thursday afternoon. The Valkyries improve to 4-9 on the season and 3-4 in league play. King drops to 2-13 and 2-7 in conference play.
Converse swept doubles play behind the duo of Alex Schlesener and Samantha Sheffield putting away the opposition 8-0. Kaitlin Knight and Margaret Pridmore got off to a slow start at the No. 1 doubles slot before finishing strong winning 8-2.
Margaret Pridmore continued her momentum winning in straight sets at the No. 3 singles. Mary Kaitlyn Flynn picked up the win in the No. 5 slot winning 6-3, 6-2.
Alex Schlesener won the first set 6-1, but had to battle in the second set winning 6-4. Samantha Sheffield battled tough at the No. 4 slot winning 7-5 before winning the match in the second set 6-2.
Kaitlin Knight suffered the lone loss for the Valkyries in a back-and-forth battle at the No. 2 clip. Knight battled back from being down 4-3 and turned it into a 7-6 (10-8) first set victory. Knight fell short in the second set falling 6-4 and ultimately 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
Converse returns to the courts Monday and Tuesday as the Valkyries host Limestone (Monday) at 2:30pm and Southern Wesleyan (Tuesday) at 3pm.
