BELMONT, N.C.- With a narrow 5-4 victory against Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon, the Valkyries Tennis team achieved something no other Converse Tennis team has done in Conference Carolinas history. The Valkyries have posted four wins in the conference beating the previous mark of three which was achieved on Thursday against King. Converse improved to 5-9 on the season and 4-4 in league play rattling off four straight wins, three of those in conference play.
Kaitlin Knight and Taylor Littlejohn-Barr clinched the match for the Valkyries in singles play after falling behind 4-3. Knight won in the No. 2 slot by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Littlejohn-Barr picked up the victory at the No. 5 clip winning 6-1, 6-4.
Converse swept the doubles competition gaining an early 3-0 lead over the Crusaders before the Valkyries rally. Margaret Pridmore and Kaitlin Knight won the No. 1 doubles in a battle, coming up victorious 8-6. Alex Schlesener and Samantha Sheffield gave the Valkyries a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 slot. Mary Kaitlyn Flynn and Littlejohn Barr gave the Valkyries the doubles sweep winning 8-5.
Converse returns to the courts Monday and Tuesday as the Valkyries host Limestone (Monday) at 2:30pm and Southern Wesleyan (Tuesday) at 3pm.
