Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The eleven day wait for Valkyrie Lacrosse was what the team needed as eight different Valkyries score to pick up its second win in a row. Converse defeated Brevard 12-7 in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening.
Converse (2-3) was led by Sydnie Hickey (Baltimore, Md.) recording a hat-trick. Elizabeth Gabriele (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Deena Kasmarik (Suwanee, Ga.) scored two goals apiece. Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, Fla.), Theresa Lasal (Fayetteville, Ga.), Madison Butler (Tampa, Fla.), Laura Starkes (Whitby, Ontario), and Dylanee Withee (Tampa, Fla.) tallied a goal in the win.
Starkes recorded two assists, while Worrell, Jessi Walters (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Gabriele tallied an assist.
The Valkyries dominated the first 15 minutes of the match grabbing an early 5-0 advantage. Kasmarik started off the scoring at the 20:48 mark scoring on a free position shot. Hickey followed suit scoring two minutes later on a free position shot as well.
Less than a minute later Worrell gave the Valkyries a 3-0 cushion scoring an unassisted goal. Lasal scored off a dish from Worrell just over a minute later. Butler finished the run with an unassisted goal midway through the first half.
Elizabeth Gabriele tallied both of her goals in a span of 51 seconds giving the Valkyries a 7-1 advantage. Brevard tallied a goal before the half heading into the half down 7-2.
Laura Starkes started the second half off fast for the Valkyries scoring 45 seconds into the half off an assist from Walters. Kasmarik tallied her second goal of the match on another free position shot giving the Valkyries a 9-2 advantage.
Dylanee Withee and Sydnie Hickey would tally back-to-back goals after Brevard grabbed its third goal of the match. Gabrielle and Starkes assisted on the Converse goals.
The Tornados would score three goals unanswered goals to cut into the deficit 11-6 before Hickey recorded her third goal of the match ripping a shot from the 8m arc and finding the top shelf.
Brevard scored with just over four minutes remaining but could not find the back of the net the rest of the match.
Alex Gurecki (Farmingdale, N.Y.) grabbed the win in the cage allowing two goals and tallying one save in the first 30 minutes. Sandra Ponce (Germantown, Md.) played the final 30 minutes allowing five goals and had seven saves.
Converse returns to action hosting Conference Carolinas foe Emmanuel (Ga.) Sunday March 8. First draw is at 4pm.
