Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse's offense stalled in a rainy Conference Carolinas match-up against Lees-McRae on Thursday afternoon falling 9-4. Converse falls to 5-4 on the season and 2-2 in league play. Lees-McRae improves to 4-2 with a 2-0 clip in the conference.
The match turned for the worst in the second half for the Valkyries as Converse saw a goal negated by an illegal stick. The goal would have tied things at 3-all for the Valkyries. LMC capitalized scoring four straight goals to take a commanding 7-2 lead.
Converse added two goals in the second half but the offensive explosion by the Bobcats cruised to a 9-4 win.
Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, Fla.) led the Valkyries scoring two goals. Elizabeth Gabriele (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Sydnie Hickey (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in with one goal apiece. Aubrie Lauderdale (Greenville, S.C.) tallied an assist in the loss.
The first half played tough as the Bobcats and Valkyries tallied two goals each heading into the break at 2-2. LMC started the scoring with an unassisted goal by Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Jenah Tracy. Converse evened the score at the 17:15 mark with Gabriele finding the back of the net off the assist from Lauderdale.
Worrell would give the Valkyries the advantage late in the first stanza, but the advantage wouldn't last long as LMC found the equalizer 16 seconds later on an unassisted goal.
LMC would open the second half scoring five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead. Chelsea Worrell would score on a free position shot scoring her second goal of the match.
The Bobcats would post two more goals before Sydnie Hickey wrapped up the scoring for the Valkyries with a free position goal.
Converse heads on the road to face #12 Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., Saturday, March 21 at 2pm.
