Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Valkyries came out fighting on this brisk evening, scoring five goals in the first half to propel them to victory, defeating Catawba College 7-5. The Valkyries are now 7-6 overall while the Indians of Catawba College are now 4-6.
For Catawba, leading in scoring was Ebony Mills with two goals. Alyssa Corace, Meredith Jones, and Erin Palma each contributed with one goal apiece. Leading on the defensive side was Kelsey Peruuse with three ground balls. Goal keeper Bethany Davis spent all sixty minutes in the goal with eight saves on the night and allowing seven goals.
Converse dominated in draw controls tonight picking up nine, while Catawba only picked up five. Catawba was able to hold on to the ball, only giving up seven turn overs compared to Converse's ten. Both teams were equal on ground balls, with fourteen.
For Converse, leading in scoring was Amelia Helm with three goals. Other Valkyries to score were Emma Murphy, Sydnie Hickey, Jordy Taylor, and Chelsea Worrell each with one goal apiece. Helm also led the defensive side with four ground balls and four draw controls. Goal keeper Alex Gurecki spent all sixty minutes in the goal, picking up the win tonight, with seven saves and five earned goals.
The Valkyries will host Mt. Olive this Saturday, March 29th, with a 7:00 PM start time.
