Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Valkyries took on the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College for Converse's annual Senior Night. Senior Jordy Taylor rose to the occasion leading her team to a victory over Young Harris 12-6. Young Harris is now 1-11 over all while the Valkyries are 5-6.
For the Mountain Lions, leading in offense was Marisa Martelli with three goals, while her teammates Kaylynn Roach, Caitlin Pardus, Ivey Franklin, and Jaclyn Kernohan each had one goal. Leading in ground balls was Kaylynn Roach, while Jordana Fretais led in draw controls with three. Goal keeper Sarah Nudelman spent all sixty minutes in the goal with nine saves and giving up twelve goals.
Converse went 12 for 12 on clears for the evening while Young Harris was only successful on 12 out of 16 clear attempts. The Valkyries also dominated in draw controls with a total of 14, while the Mountain Lions only picked up five.
For the Valkyries Jordy Taylor led the team with four goals, her teammate Rachel Halley was not far behind her with three goals. Sydnie Hickey contributed two, while Laura Starkes, Emma Murphy, and Deena Kasmarick each had one. Rachel Halley dominated draw controls, picking up seven. Freshman Jessi Walters led the team in ground balls picking up four. Alex Gurecki spent twenty-two minutes in the goal allowing three earned goals and only had one save. Sandra Ponce spent thirty-seven minutes in the goal with six saves and allowing four goals.
The Valkyries will travel to Reinhardt in Waleska, Georgia this March 23rd with a 2:00 PM start time.
