Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Valkyries Lacrosse team took to the mountain today to take on the Bobcats of Lees-McRae. The Valkyries came out strong against their Conference Carolinas opponent, ultimately downing the Bobcats 11-7. Lees-McRae is now 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while the Valkyries are 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
For the Bobcats leading the offense was Katelin Rooney with three goals. Her teammates Taylor Drake, Jenah Tracy, Callie Gregg, and Kristen English each contributed one goal. Leading Lees-McRae in ground balls was Ximena Dupont with five. Goal keeper Mia Emmerson spent all sixty minutes in the goal giving up eleven goals with only ten saves.
The Valkyries and the Bobcats went head to head tonight in draw controls, each with ten apiece. Converse was slightly more successful with clears, going 5-6, where Lees-McRae only went 4-7 on the night. Converse also dominated the field in ground balls, picking up a total of 24, compared to Lees-McRae's total of 17.
For the Valkyries Emma Murphy led in scoring with three goals. Her teammates Sydney Hickey and Laura Starkes each contributed two goals. They were not the only Valkyries to score as Amelia Helm, Chelsea Worrell, Deena Kasmarik, and Rachel Halley each put away a goal apiece tonight. Murphy also led the defensive side, picking up four ground balls. Alex Gurecki receives the win tonight as she spent almost fifty minutes in the goal, only allowing five goals. Gurecki also had five saves for the evening. The rest of the time in the goal was spent by Sandra Ponce who allowed two goals and picked up two saves.
The Valkyries will host Young Harris College for Senior Night Friday, March 21st at 5:00 PM.
