@ConverseVB Picks up First @ConfCarolinas Victory

Box Score

TIGERVILLE, S.C.- Converse Volleyball picked up it's first Conference Carolinas victory of the season with a 3-1 win over North Greenville, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23 on Friday night on the road.  The Valkyries move to 7-13 on the season and 1-7 in Conference Carolinas play.  The Crusaders fall to 13-7 on the season and 1-5 in league play.

Three Valkyries had double-digit kills.  Candace Clack (MacClenny, Fla.) led the Valkyries with 14 kills.  Scottie Kay Auton (Gaffney, S.C.) and Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) added 13 and 10 kills respectively.  SKA hit a team high .520 while Clack hit .429.  Converse hit .234 as a squad in the win.

Krislyn Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) had a career-high 41 assists on the night.  Aubrey Crosby (Spartanburg, S.C.) had a match high 20 digs.

The first set was closely contested until the latter half of the frame. Converse fell behind NGU with the Crusaders taking a 17-12 lead, forcing a Valkyrie timeout. NGU took the first point out of the quick intermission to take an 18-12 lead. The two squads then traded points before six consecutive points from Converse evened the score at 19, this time forcing the Crusaders to call a timeout. NGU would regain composure and take the first two scores out of the timeout to take a 21-19 lead, but the Valkyries would answer again with two of their own to even the tally. Converse would then comeback with another scoring streak of its own, outscoring NGU 7-1 in route to a 25-22 set win.

Converse hung tough to a 15-14 lead midway through set two.  NGU was forced to take a TO.  Coming out of the timeout, the Valkyries saw the Crusaders cruise out to a 22-19 lead.  The Valkyries would fight back once again and eventually take a 23-22 lead after a Crusader attacking error.  NGU would take its final timeout, but Converse would finish off the set grabbing the final two points for the 2-0 set lead.

Set three was also closely contested throughout, as neither team was able to gain any traction for a comfortable advantage.  North Greenville took the largest lead of the set at 24-20 before Converse cut the deficit to 24-22 in favor of the Crusaders.  NGU would take the third set 25-22 and prevent the Valkyries from sweeping the match.

Set four would be the most evenly matched of the night as neither team was able to gain much of an advantage, trading points for a majority of the frame. Converse would lead by one late, but back to back points would earn the Crusaders a late 21-20 lead. True to form,  the Valkyries would respond to NGU's lead with a run of their own scoring four of the next six points to take a 24-23 lead, as NGU looked to advance the match to a fifth and decisive set. Converse spoiled the plans of NGU however, taking the final point out of a timeout to win the game 25-23, and a 3-1 sets win.

Converse continues their road swing with another Conference Carolinas match at Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 18.  First serve is slated for a 2pm start.
