Tennis Picks Up First Conference Win Against Tornado, 6-3

BRISTOL, TN- The Converse tennis team picked up their first conference win of the season Saturday, defeating the Tornadoes of King College, 6-3. The Valkyries move to 1-9 overall (1-4 conference) after strong performances at #1 and #3 singles and #2 doubles.

Olivia Self continued her dominance at #1 singles, routing her seventh win of the season and moving back to .500 in conference play at 2-2. Self would rebound after a first set loss to claim the second set and the decisive tiebreaker set, 10-4.  Samantha Sheffield picked up a second set victory, 6-4, at #4 singles, but came up just short in the tiebreaker, 4-10. Marissa Esformes won in straight sets at #3 singles to pick up her second win of the season. Converse would claim the final two of three by default.

The purple and gold would go two of three in doubles on the day. Self and teammate Kasey Anderson would drop a tight battle at #1 doubles, 9-8(5). Esformes and Sheffield returned to the court in #2 doubles, handling the Tornadoes, 8-2. Converse would claim the final doubles set by default.

The Valkyries resume next weekend for a weekend home stand that begins Saturday against the Cobras of Coker College. The teams take the court at 11:00am.
