SPARTANBURG, SC- The Converse tennis team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday to Conference Carolinas rival, Coker College, 4-5. The Cobras improve to 3-3 in conference play, 6-5 overall, while the Valkyries fall to 1-10 on the season.
Converse went two of three on the afternoon in doubles. Marisa Esformes and Samantha Sheffield made quick work of the Cobras at #2 doubles, 8-3, while teammates Shae Lyles and Klaire Rouse routed their second team win of the season at #3 doubles, 8-3.
The Cobras would take three tough, extra-set matches to for an early 0-3 lead in singles action. Rouse would take a pair of sets from Coker's Rachel Solomon, 6-1, 6-0, at #5 singles, while Lyles picked up her first singles win of the season at #6 in straight sets, 6-0,6-4.
The Converse tennis team will be back on the courts tomorrow afternoon in conference action against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. The first serve is scheduled for 11am.
