BANNER ELK, N.C. - With the 22-4 win over the Valkyries the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's lacrosse team has doubled the wins than in the previous three season combined.
Converse players Carrie Jackson, Lisa Ryan, Ashley Day and Sammeria Crowder all found the back of the net for goals. Carrie Jackson had a team high eight groundballs, and Syndey Brown had a team high four draw controls. Day earned six groundballs, and Crowder and Ryan had five groundballs.
For Lees-McRae, sisters Desiree and Cheryse Cox led the team with six total points. Both scored four goals and had four assists. Desiree also grabbed a team high eight groundballs and a team high four draw controls. Tiffany Paris had five points with three goals and two assists and scooped up seven groundballs. Julia Campbell and Laura Hawthrone, playing in her first game of the season, also scored three goals. Susan Dael added two goals, and Anna Deluke, Clair Shaw and Lauren Ochoa scored one goal apiece. Mendson, who also recorded an assist but did not score, earned a team high four draw controls, as well. Shaw and Lauren Marten caused a team high three turnovers.
Martha Peacock earned the win with four saves on eight shots on goal for the Lady Bobcats, and Ashley Mercuri took the loss between the pipes for the Valkyries.
Lees-McRae won the groundball battle, 60-38, and draw controls 16-9.
Converse stays on the road with a trip to St. Andrews March 28th.
