Valkyries Take On DI Gardner-Webb in Saturday Exhibition

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.  – The Converse University men's tennis team faced off against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex on the campus of Gardner-Webb University. The Runnin' Bulldogs won 6-1.

Converse will count the match as an exhibition so the Valkyries' record remains 3-4 on the season. The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 6-3.

The Runnin' Bulldogs swept doubles. The closest the Valkyries came to winning a doubles match was at No. 2 doubles as senior Marty Letessier and sophomore Lucas Walker took the match to a tiebreaking set but fell 7-2 in that set.

Junior Takuma Furumaki recorded the only point of the match for the Valkyries, winning in three sets at No. 3 singles. He took set one 6-4 and forced a tiebreaker in set two before taking a superset 10-5.

Freshman James Hardy took his first set to a tiebreaker and won that 7-5. He fell 6-4 in set two and narrowly took a superset but fell 10-7.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries will return to Division-II action on Saturday, March 7 as they host Georgia College at the Rose.
