No. 3 Valkyries Fall to No. 2 Crusaders in Conference Semifinals

SUMTER, S.C. – The third-seeded and No. 33 Converse men's tennis team had their run at the 2026 Conference Carolinas Championship ended by the second-seeded and No. 25 Belmont Abbey Crusaders in the semifinals as the Crusaders won 4-0.

Belmont Abbey won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to secure the point. Juniors Ben Hyde-Smith and Takuma Furumaki were ahead 4-3 when their match was suspended.

The Crusaders won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles to secure their victory.

Senior Marty Letessier and sophomore Mathis Blary won their first sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, but were in decisive third sets when the match was called. Sophomore Lucas Walker dropped his first set but fought back in the second set to force a third set that went unfinished.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries, who are under consideration for the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship, await the decision of the selection committee to know their fate.
