Valkyries Capture Three Major Awards, Have 13 All-Conference Performances At Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Converse University men's track and field team took home three of five major awards at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships, including two Valkyries, junior Dorian Bomar and senior Devron Davis, winning Co-Track Athletes of the Year and one Valkyrie, junior Omarion Belton, winning Field Athlete of the Year. The Valkyries placed second at the meet with a score of 124 points, 8.5 points behind Mount Olive who won the meet.

Sophomore Marti Ruiz Barreda took home the conference's Elite 26 Award which honors Conference Carolinas student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average at their respective championship site.

Senior Isaac Gilmore broke the meet and conference records in the 400 meters as he brought home gold in the event.

In total, the Valkyries had 13 all-conference finishes at the meet.

Meet Notes:
  • Bomar and Davis finished silver and bronze in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Xavier Dixon also qualified for the event final and finished in eighth place.
  • Sophomore Dre'Kevan Thomas and junior Nick Tibolla finished one-two in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 8.09 and 8.13 respectively.
  • Davis and Bomar had a one-two finish of their own in the 200-meter dash. Dixon finished sixth in the event.
  • Gilmore took home gold with his conference record in the 400 meters. Freshman Neale Johnson finished eighth in the event final.
  • Sophomore Ander Vera Moleres finished first in the 5K with a time of 15:02.06 and fifth in the 3K with a time of 8:38.34.
  • Sophomore Camden Ranieri finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters.
  • Belton and Johnson went one-two in the long jump with marks of 7.35 meters and 7.21 meters. Ranieri finished fifth with a mark of 6.95 meters, netting Converse four points.
  • Belton finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.31 meters.
  • The Converse 4x400 meter relay finished second with a time of 3:18.58 and the 4000 meter distance medley relay finished third with a time of 10:28.41.
