GILBERT, Ariz.  – With the conclusion of the fall tennis slate, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released their regional rankings and one Valkyrie and one Converse doubles pair cracked the list for the southeast region.

Junior Takuma Furumaki earned the distinction as a singles player while he and fellow junior Ben Hyde-Smith made the list as a double pair.

"These guys are putting in good work and getting rewarded for it," stated head coach James Smith. Their performance especially against Lander's nationally second-ranked doubles team (6-1 win) shows they can play at a very high level. We'll look to build on it with all our student-athletes this spring."

Furumaki posted a 4-1 singles record this fall, 2-1 in dual matches. Ranked No. 18, Furumaki has one victory over a fellow ranked player, No. 19 Brendan Jayaprakash from Lander.

Together, Furumaki and Hyde-Smith posted a 6-1 doubles record, going 3-0 in dual matches. The duo defeated the region's top-ranked and nationally second-ranked duo of Harry Pugh and Jayaprakash from Lander by a score of 6-1 at the Lander Invite on Oct. 11.

The Converse tennis teams return to the courts for their spring championship season in February.
