Valkyries Selected Second in Indoor Preseason Poll; Bomar, Davis and Johnson Tabbed Athletes to Watch

GREENVILLE, S.C.  –  With the indoor track and field season just over two weeks away, Conference Carolinas released its preseason poll with the Valkyries selected to finish second at season's end. Mount Olive placed first in the poll.

The conference also released its list of athletes to watch and three Valkyries earned the distinction: junior Dorian Bomar, senior Devron Davis and freshman Neale Johnson.

Bomar, a junior from Spartanburg, was second team all-conference last season in the 60 meter dash and third team all-conference in the 4x400 meter relay.

Davis, a senior from Columbia, was third team all-conference in the 200 meters and the 4x400 meter relay last season.

Johnson, a freshman from Rock Hill, has personal bests of 7.70 meters in the long jump, 13.90 meters in the triple jump and a personal-best of 53.41 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.

While Mount Olive topped the poll, Converse received the same number of first-place votes, securing seven of the possible 13 votes. The Trojans received the other seven votes and finished with 189 points, just one ahead of the Valkyries' 188 points.

UNC Pembroke ranked third in the poll with 172 points and received the final first-place vote.

They were followed by Belmont Abbey in fourth, Southern Wesleyan in fifth and Lees-McRae in sixth.

North Greenville ranked seventh, followed by Shorter in eighth and Emmanuel in ninth. The Trailblazers were the final team with over 100 points in the poll.

Young Harris ranked 10th just one point behind Emmanuel. King, Barton, conference-newcomer Ferrum, Erskine and Francis Marion rounded out the poll

Converse kicks off indoor season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with the Winston-Salem College Kick-off on Saturday, Dec. 6.
