SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse men's swimming team took care of business on Thursday evening, crushing King 125.5 -76.5 in the Montgomery Student Center pool.
The men's swim team has won five straight and improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries are also 2-0 at home on the season after last night's win.
The Valkyries will have almost a month off before traveling to Kentucky to compete in the Speedo Mid-Season Invitational.
Henry Stockton and
Joey Lilley were the Valkyries top performers on Thursday evening both finished with a trio of wins.
Alexander Kuznetsov finished with a pair of wins, while both James Owens and
Louis Milczynski both contributed one win in the meet.
In the opening event of the night, the Converse A relay team (Lilley, Milczynski, Kuznetsov, and
Daniel Merzthal) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.83. The Converse B team (
Jay Owens,
Jaxon Tschikof,
Alexander Nichols,
Keith Rogers) finished third and the Converse C team (
Tyler Leal,
Manny Schlichtmann,
Davis Dial,
Gavin Gordy) finished fourth in the event.
Stockton won the 1000 free event with a season best time of 10:01.80,
Mason Reed finished second in the event with a time of 10:17.05 and Kir Lyzhin finished fourth with a time of 11:03.92. In the 200 free event, Merzthal finished second and Lesley finished third to round out the podium for the Valkyries.
Henry Winstead and
Luigi Ballivian both finished in fourth and fifth respectively.
Lilley won the 50 free event with a season best time of 21.76 seconds and Nichols finished third overall with a season best time of 23.02 seconds.
Manny Schlichtmann finished sixth with a time of 27.76 seconds. In the 100 IM event Milczynski finished second with a season best time of 53.16 seconds,
Tyler Leal and
Jay Owens finished right behind in third and fourth place.
Jaxon Tschikof and Cole Smith recorded personal bests in the event.
Alexander Kuznetsov won the 200 fly event with a time of 2:02.99 and
Davis Dial finished third in the event to round out the podium for Converse.
Luigi Ballivian recorded a season best time in the event with a fourth place finish and Cole Smith finished fifth in the event for Converse.
In the 100 free event, Stockton and Fabio Ricci tied for first place with a time of 48.54 seconds. Rogers and Leal both set season best times in the event to finish in third and fourth place, while Chris Olcott placed fifth in the event.
In the 200 back event the Valkyries posted three season best times in the race.
Jay Owens won the event with a time of 1:56.18, while Nichols and Lyzhin finished in third and fourth respectively.
Mason Reed finished second in the 500 free event,
Micah Lesley posted a third place finish and
Henry Winstead finished in sixth place. In the 200 breast event, MIlczynski finished second followed by
Gavin Gordy in third place. Tschikof finished fifth overall and Olcott finished sixth in the event.
In the final event of the night, the men's 200 free relay, the Converse A team (Lilley, Rogers, Merzthal and Stockton) won the event with a time of 1:25.96. The Converse B team (Lesley, Kuznetsov, Reed and Winstead) finished third and the Converse C team (Ballivian, Smith, Olcott, Lyzhin) finished in fourth place ahead of the King B team.
The Converse men's swimming team will have a few weeks off before heading to Kentucky for the Speedo Midseason Invitational.
