SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's swim team went 2-1 on Saturday afternoon with wins over Berry College and Montevallo, the Valkyries only loss on the day came against Emmanuel.
With the results from Saturday the Valkyries are now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries top performers on Saturday was
Henry Stockton,
Mason Reed,
Louis Milczynski, Joseph Lilley and
Tyler Leal.
In the first event of the meet, the Converse 200 Medley Relay A team comprised of
Jay Owens, Leal, Milczynski and Lilley finished second in the event with a time of 1:36.41. The Valkyries finished just three seconds behind the Emmanuel A team. The Converse B team made up of
Alexander Nichols, Chris Olcott,
Alexander Kuznetsov and
Keith Rogers finished seventh in the vent with a time of 1:40.14.
The Converse C team of
Davis Dial,
Jaxon Tschikof, Cole Smith and
Luigi Ballivian finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:46.40. The Converse D team of Kir Lyzhin,
Manny Schlichtmann,
Henry Winstead and
Gavin Gordy finished 10
th with a time of 1:49.61.
In the 1000 free event the Valkyries had a one-two finish with
Henry Stockton and
Mason Reed. Stockton won the event with a time of 10:04.65, while Reed crossed the finish line with a time of 10:14.83. Lyzhin finished eighth in the event with a time of 11:00.99 to round out the Valkyries competitors in the event.
In the 200 free event,
Micah Lesley and
Daniel Merzthal finished fifth and sixth respectively. Lesley posted a time of 1:48.50 while Merzthal finished with a time of 1:48.94.
Keith Rogers and
Henry Winstead finished 10
th and 14
th respectively in the event.
In the 100 back event,
Jay Owens and
Alexander Nichols finished in sixth and seventh place. Owens clocked a time of 54.14 seconds and Nichols finished with a time of 54.24 seconds.
Davis Dial finished the event in 13
th place and Lyzhin finished in 14
th place.
Tyler Leal found the podium for the Valkyries in the 100 Breast event with a season best time of 1:00.31. Chris Olcott and
Gavin Gordy both had top-10 finishes in the event, while
Jaxon Tschikof and
Manny Schlichtmann placed 14
th and 16
th respectively.
In the 200 fly event, the Valkyries just missed the podium as Kuznetsov and
Mason Reed finished fourth and fifth overall.
Micah Lesley added a top-10 finish in the event, while Cole Smith and Ballivian finished in 11
th and 12
th place.
The Valkyries had a pair of podium finishes in the 50 free event as Milczynski and Lilley finished in second and third place. Milczynski clocked a time of 21.49 seconds and Lilley had a season best time of 21.82 seconds in the event. Merzthal finished eighth in the event, followed by Olcott in 12
th place and Schlichtmann in 15
th place.
Stockton once again podiumed in the 100 free event with a time of 47.56 seconds, placing third overall. Lilley finished seventh in the event, followed by Rogers in 10
th place, Merzthal in 13
th place, Winstead in 15
th place and Smith in 16
th place.
In the 200 back event,
Jay Owens finished second overall with a time of 1:58.01.
Alexander Nichols finished ninth in the event, followed by Kuznetsov in 12
th, Ballivian in 13
th place and Lyzhin in 14
th place.
In the 200 breast event, Leal finished just off the podium in fourth place with a time of 2:17.36.
Gavin Gordy had a top-10 finish with a time of 2:21.42, while Tschikof, Olcott, Dial and Schlichtmann rounded out the event in 14
th, 15
th, 16
th and 17
th place.
In the 500 free event, Stockton finished second overall with a time of 4:54.68, while Reed just missed the podium with a fourth place finish in the event.
Micah Lesley also finished eighth in event.
In the 100 fly event, Milczynski placed third overall with a time of 52.10 seconds. Leal and Kuznetsov finished just inside the top-10 with a seventh and eighth place finish. Cole Smith finished 14
th to round out the Valkyries swimmers in the event.
In the 200 IM event, the Valkyries had
Jay Owens, Gordy, Ballivian and Dial all finish the event between 12
th and 15
th place.
Henry Winstead and Tschikof rounded out the event with an 18
th and 19
th place finish.
In the final of event of the day, the Valkyries 200 Free Relay A team just narrowly missed first place. The quartet of Milczynski, Lilley, Merzthal and Stockton clocked a time of 1:26.60, finishing right behind the Emmanuel A team who won the event with a time of 1:26.00. The Converse B team of Rogers, Lesley, Nichols and Reed finished fifth with a time of 1:29.92 seconds.
