GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the first time since the 2017 season, multiple Valkyries have earned Conference Carolinas All-Conference honors: junior midfielder
Jasmine Hernandez and junior defender
Savannah Mellon. The pair helped guide the women's soccer team (8-6-3, 6-3-3 Conference Carolinas) to their best finish since the 2016 season in which the team won nine games.
Hernandez, a junior from Woodbridge, Virginia, led the Valkyries in scoring this season with seven goals and an assist, good for 15 points on the season. That is the most points by a Valkyrie since Nicole Doolittle ('18) netted 26 points in the 2016 season. Hernandez appeared and started in all 17 games for the Valkyries this season, tallying 1,234 minutes on the pitch and was tied for the 10th-most goals in Conference Carolinas this season.
Mellon, a junior from York, South Carolina, also appeared and started in all 17 of the Valkyries' games this season. As a defender, she tallied a pair of assists and three shots for the season, all on target. The York native played all 90 minutes in 12 games and played fewer than 60 minutes just once in the Valkyries' 7-1 blowout of Allen to open the season. Mellon helped lead the Valkyries to eight shutouts, the most in a single season in program history.
After a thrilling overtime victory last night, the Valkyries are back in action in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Belmont Abbey. The game is scheduled for 2 P.M.
