Valkyries Fall to Lander in Road Battle

GREENWOOD, S.C. – A Bearcat goal in each half of Wednesday's road contest spelled defeat for the Converse University women's soccer team as the Lander University Bearcats won the nonconference matchup 2-0 at Van Taylor Stadium on the campus of Lander University.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofía Casares Herrasti faced 29 shots in the contest, 20 more than in the season opener against Newberry. She recorded eight saves.

Lander broke the tie as sophomore forward Paige Bailey eluded
 the Valkyries' defense and found the back of the net just under 33 minutes into the contest.

Just under 30 minutes later, Lander struck again off of a corner kick as Bearcat sophomore defender Langley Stewart headed the ball into the goal.

The Bearcats held on to win 2-0.

Next up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 5, as they head to Bristol, Tennessee, to kick off conference and divisional play against the King University Tornado. The match is set to begin at 1 P.M.
