BRISTOL, Tenn. – Junior forward Charlie Morgan netted her first goal in purple and gold late in the Converse University women's soccer team's (0-2-1, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) divisional matchup with the King University Tornado (1-2, 1-0 Conference Carolinas), but with the Tornado already having two goals of their own, the Valkyries fell 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Parks Field on the campus of King University.

The Valkyries held the edge in shots, 12-6, and shots on goal, 7-5.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofía Casares Herrasti played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves.

King graduate defender Victoria Thauer scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute. Converse made multiple pushes to the goal following King's goal and allowed the Tornado just one more shot in the first half. They took their one-goal lead into the second half.

Just over one minute into the second half, King senior forward Ella Froehlich doubled the lead. The Valkyries allowed the Tornado to take just two more shots the rest of the way.

Morgan cut the lead in half in the 78th minute with her first goal as a Valkyrie.

The Valkyries had a pair of corner kicks in the final 11 minutes of the contest but couldn't capitalize, and the Tornado held on to win 2-1.

Next Up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries return home on Tuesday, Sept. 8, as they host the Lees-McRae College Bobcats for Purple Reign Night. Kickoff is set for 5 P.M. at Weisiger Stadium.
