GAFFNEY, S.C. – Despite the first day of the competition getting canceled due to rain, the Converse University men's tennis team continued their fall schedule by competing in singles and doubles tournaments at the Limestone Invitational.

In doubles competition, freshmen Takuma Furumaki and Manuel Roncero took the lone victory of the first round for the Valkyries: a 7-6 (7) victory against a duo from Limestone to advance to the second round. They claimed a second round victory over a pair from Lander 6-2 to improve to 2-0 for the tournament.

Sophomore Marty Letessier captured a singles victory in two sets over his opponent from Lander: 6-2, 6-3. Roncero added to his winning ways with a three-set victory over his victory from Lander: 6-2, 2-6,10-4.

Freshman Ben Hyde-Smith added to the Valkyries' singles victories. After falling 6-2 in the first set, he bounced back for a 6-4, 10-3 reverse sweep. Junior Cameron Davies rounded out the wins column for the Valkyries with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over his opponent from Lander.

The Valkyries continue their fall season when they're back on the court for the Florence Invitational on Sept. 29 and 30.
