Men’s Tennis Weekend Preview: Mount Olive and Francis Marion

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team will face a pair of nationally ranked opponents this weekend in #45 Francis Marion and #50 Mount Olive on Friday and Saturday.
 
This will be the third all-time meeting between Converse and Mount Olive dating back to last season. The Trojans are 2-0 against the Valkyries and eliminated Converse from the Conference Carolinas Men's Championships a season ago. This will also be the Valkyries first ever trip to Mount Olive.
 
This will be the second meeting between Converse and Francis Marion, with the Valkyries winning the only other meeting 4-3 in Spartanburg last season. Last season's win over Francis Marion was the Valkyries first ever win against a nationally ranked opponent.
 
Converse Notes:
  • Converse is 3-9 overall this season and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries are coming off a 5-2 loss to Lees-McRae on Tuesday afternoon.  
  • Last time out the Valkyries won the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights. Unfortunately, the Valkyries only singles match win came from Marty Letessier at the No. 6 singles flight.  
  • Leopold Morel leads the team this season with an 8-4 record in singles play and he is 6-0 at the No. 6 singles flight this season. Bellet is second on the team with a 4-6 record at the No. 1 singles position and Enzo Marcheschi is third on the team with a 3-8 record playing primarily at the No. 3 singles court. Letessier has won his last two matches in singles play and is now 3-7 overall on the season.
  • The Valkyries No. 3 doubles tandem of Morel/Letessier is 6-4 on the season and Valkyries top pairing of Bellet/Marcheschi is 5-5 on the year.
 
Mount Olive Notes:
  • Mount Olive is 7-5 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play this season. The Trojans are 4-2 at home this season and they are coming off a 5-2 win over Chowan on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Mount Olive swept the doubles point against Chowan and then won on the No.1, No.4, No.5 and No.6 singles courts in straight sets to clinch the match.
  • Daniel Hammond is 8-2 in singles play this season, Bram Poel is second on the team with a 6-2 record and Kabir Chhabria is third on the team with a 5-2 record.
  • The Trojans top pairing of Hammond/Zotin de Oliveria is 7-2 on the season, while the No.3 tandem of Elios Briand/Bram Poel is 3-3 on the season.
 
Francis Marion Notes:
  • Francis Marion is 7-5 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas action. The Patriots are 5-2 at home this season and they have won four straight matches.
  • The Patriots are coming off a 4-3 win over Barton on Tuesday afternoon. Francis Marion lost the doubles point but rallied with wins at the No.1, No.2, No.4 and No.5 singles courts to take the victory away from Barton.
  • Martin Barbera and Liam Day are tied for the team lead with a 10-2 record in singles play. Leonel Gonzalez, Harri Lloyd-Evans and Luis Lopez Sarasa are tied for second on the team with five wins each.
  • The Patriots top tandem of Gonzalez/Day is 8-2 on the season, while the tandem of Barbera/Lopez Sarasa is second on the team with a 5-4 record.
