SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team will stay on the road this week with a midweek matchup against Lees-McRae on Tuesday afternoon.
This will be the second ever meeting between the two programs, Lees-McRae upset the Valkyries last season 4-3 when Converse was nationally ranked for the first time in program history. Last year, Converse swept the doubles point and led 3-0 after winning on the No.1 and No. 2 singles courts. Losses at the No.3, No.4, No.5 and No.6 singles courts gave the Bobcats the win in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Converse Notes:
- Converse is 3-8 overall this season and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries are coming off a 5-2 loss to Furman on Saturday afternoon.
- Last time out the Valkyries top doubles pairing of Merlin Bellet and Enzo Marcheschi defeated Furman's top pairing 6-4 to give the Valkyries their only win in doubles action. On the singles court Leopold Morel and Marty Letessier each picked up a win at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts.
- Morel leads the team this season with an 8-3 record in singles play and he is 6-0 at the No. 6 singles flight this season. Bellet is second on the team with a 4-5 record at the No. 1 singles position and Enzo Marcheschi is third on the team with a 3-7 record playing primarily at the No. 3 singles court.
- The Valkyries No. 1 doubles tandem of Bellet/Marcheschi is tied for the team lead with a 5-4 overall record and a 1-0 record in Conference Carolinas action. The duo has won three straight matches. The No. 3 pairing of Letessier/Morel is tied for the team lead with an identical 5-4 overall record and a 1-0 record in Conference play so far this season.
Lees-McRae Notes:
- Lees-McRae is 1-4 overall this season and 0-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Tuesday afternoon will not only be the Bobcats first game in 10 days but it will also be their first home game of the season and their first conference game of the year.
- Last time out the Bobcats lost 6-1 to UNC Greensboro. Max Borisov picked up the Bobcats lone win at the No. 1 singles flight.
- Borisov and Facundo Perlov both lead the team with four singles wins on the season. In doubles action, the Bobcats are still working out their lineups to see which partners work together.
