SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team has an action-packed weekend with a pair of road trips lined up against a trio of opponents.
On Friday morning the Valkyries will travel down to Charleston to play The Citadel at 10:00 a.m. Then in the afternoon, the Valkyries will turn around and play SCAD-Savannah in Charleston at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday the men's tennis team will travel to the Peach State to battle Georgia College at 2:00 p.m.
Converse Notes:
- Converse is 2-4 overall this season with a pair of wins against Mars Hill this season. The Valkyries are coming off a 6-1 loss to Augusta last Thursday afternoon.
- Last time out, the Valkyries lone doubles win came in tiebreaker at the No. 2 doubles court. The tandem of Gregoire Legrand and Paul Berrouet won 7-6 (7-4). On the singles side, Merlin Bellet picked up a straight sets win at the No. 1 singles court.
- Morel currently leads the team with a 4-2 record in singles action this season. Merlin Bellet is second on the team with three wins and Enzo Marcheschi is third on the team with a pair of wins on the year.
- In doubles action, all of the Valkyries doubles pairings have a pair of wins on the season.
Citadel Notes:
- The Citadel is 3-12 overall this season and just 1-5 at home. The Bulldogs have lost three straight matches and they are coming off a 6-1 loss to the University of Tennessee.
- Hayden Shoemake leads the team with 9-9 overall record in singles play this season, while Lucas Robins and Ted Bagwell each have seven wins on the season.
- In doubles action, the Bulldogs top tandem of Sebastian Kamieniecki/Shoemake are 6-4 on the season. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Ted Bagwell/Lucas Robins is 3-3 on the year.
SCAD-Savannah Notes:
- SCAD-Savannah is 0-2 overall this season and 0-1 in conference action. The Bees are coming off a 4-3 loss to the College of Coastal Georgia on Wednesday afternoon.
- Danil Ozernoy, Liam Stoica and Mark Tryakshin are all 1-0 this season in singles action for SCAD-Savannah.
- In doubles action on the tandem of Johan Karlsson/Tryakshin are the only duo with a win this season for the Bees.
Georgia College Notes:
- Georgia College is 3-2 overall this season with wins over Emmanuel, Newberry and Montevallo. The Bobcats are coming off a 5-2 win over Montevallo on Sunday afternoon.
- Georgia College won the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts. The Bobcats sealed the match with wins at the No.1, No.2, No.3 and No.4 singles flights.
- Karol Malirz and Jorge Robinson lead the team with three wins in singles this season. Gabe Cizek, Masumi Komada and Luka Sauer Jimenez are second on the team with two wins in singles action.
- In doubles action the top tandems of Cizek/Jimenez and Komada/Nunez both have a 2-1 record on the season.
