SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team will play their second consecutive nationally ranked team this season when they host #13 Lander on Thursday afternoon at the Converse University Tennis Courts.
In the Valkyries lone meeting against the Bearcats last season, Lander came away with a 6-1 win against Converse. Last season, the Bearcats were ranked #8 nationally in the polls when they squared off against Converse. The Valkyries lone bright spot in the match came from the No. 1 singles flight, when
Merlin Bellet won in straight sets over Thomas De Negri.
Converse Notes:
- Converse is 1-1 this season and they are coming off a 5-2 loss to #21 Anderson on February 4th.
- The Valkyries No. 3 doubles tandem of Enzo Marcheschi and Cameron Davies won the Valkyries lone doubles court against Anderson with a 6-4 win.
- On the singles court, Paul Berrouet won in straight sets at the No. 3 singles flight, while Leopold Morel won in straight sets at the No. 6 court.
- Merlin Bellet, Gregoire Legrand and Marcheschi will all look to get back in the win column on the singles court, while Morel will look to remain unbeaten on the No. 6 singles flight.
Lander Notes:
- Lander is 4-0 this season and has recorded wins over Coker, Newberry, Mount Olive and Carson-Newman.
- Last time out, the Bearcats defeated the Eagles 6-1 on their home court. The Bearcats lone court loss came at No. 2 singles, when Carson-Newman's Marnix Van Dalen won in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 over Ambroise Marchand.
- In singles action, Alexandre Crepy is 4-0 on the season at the No. 4 singles flight, the Bearcats top singles player Hugo Regner is 3-0 on the year currently. Regner is currently ranked 29th nationally and 5th in the Southeast Region.
- Nick Beamish, Nicolas Chan, Matthew De Groot and Mouad Naoui are all currently undefeated on the season in singles action.
- In doubles play, the Bearcats top tandem of Beamish and Markus Sorensen are 3-0 on the season. The No. 2 doubles pairing of De Groot and Regner is 2-0 on the season and they are ranked 20th nationally and 4th in the Southeast Region.
