FLORENCE, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team took on their third and final individual tournament of the season this past weekend with the team's top six athletes competing.

In flight A singles, sophomore Marty Letessier and freshman Takuma Furumaki each took a first round victory. Letessier by a score of 6-1, 7-5 and Furumaki by a three-set score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. But after both fell in the second round, the pair decided to withdraw from their consolation match against one another.

Freshman Manuel Roncero and sophomore Stanley Waters competed in flight B singles. Both fell in the first round but bounced back with a second-round victory. Roncero won 6-4, 6-1 and Waters won 6-1, 7-5 to set up a match against one another. But the match did not happen has Waters won the all-Valkyrie matchup by default.

Rounding out the singles competition in flight C was juniors Leopold Morel and Cameron Davies. Morel took his first two matches 6-4, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-1 to reach the flight championship where he fell in three sets. After falling in his first match, Davies responded with two three-set victories, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4 and 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 to round out his singles competition.

Furumaki and Roncero dominated their opening doubles match 6-1 in flight B. They followed that up with two wins on Sunday to sweep doubles competition on the weekend.

Waters and Davies did likewise as they completed a three-match sweep in flight C doubles. The duo won their first two matches 6-3 and took a commanding 6-1 victory in their final match on Sunday morning.

The Valkyries hit the courts again on Oct. 14 as they head to Newberry College for a 1-p.m. matchup with the Wolves.
