SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team has announced the signing of
Megan Carpenter (Easley, S.C.),
Evelyn Fitz (Columbia, S.C.),
Azlyn Persails (Pacolet, S.C.), Mackenzie Schmucker (Myaaka City, Fla.) and
Peyton Suggs (Statesboro, Ga.) for the 2022 volleyball season.
Carpenter helped Powdersville high school to four South Carolina State Championship appearances and helped the team win three consecutive titles from 2019-2021. During her time at Powdersville, Carpenter also helped the team to six straight Region Championships. Carpenter a two-time All-Region selection was named the South Carolina 3A State Player of the Year in 2021 and was selected to the All-State squad in 2021. Carpenter was also named the All-Region Player of the Year in 2021 and she earned a spot on the North/South All-Star team. Carpenter concluded her prep career with 946 kills, 554 assists, 128 blocks, a .326 hitting percentage and a 94.5 serving percentage. Off the court, Carpenter was a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club and was the Senior Class President.

Fitz is transferring back to the Palmetto State after playing her previous two seasons at Arkansas Tech. As a member of the Golden Suns, Fitz helped Arkansas Tech to the 2021 Great American Conference Tournament Championship and a birth in the NCAA Tournament. Fitz is originally from Columbia, S.C., and played her prep career at Northside Christian Academy. Fitz was an All-Region selection and played in the All-Star game following her senior season.
Persails played her prep career just down the road from Converse University at High Point Academy. Persails was a four-year player and was captain of the volleyball team while at High Point. A two-time All-Region selection and a two-time MVP, Persails also led her team to the South Carolina Upper State Championship. Persails ended her prep career with the school records for career digs, season digs and sets played. Outside of volleyball, Persails was a member of National Honor Society and Beta Club.
Schmucker was captain of the Lakewood Ranch volleyball team and finished her career with 1,772 assists. A two-time All-Area selection, Schmucker also played club volleyball for WAVE Alliance and OTVA. In 2019, Schmucker was named MVP and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Schmucker's sister currently plays at Mars Hill University.
Suggs was a four-year letter winner at Trinity Christian School and was an All-Region and All-State selection over the course of her career. Suggs won the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Athlete Award and played club volleyball for the Savannah Stars. Outside of volleyball, Suggs was a member of the Student Council and named to the Headmaster's list all four years.
The Converse University volleyball team is less than 50 days away from the start of the 2022 season. The Valkyries home opener will be on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. against Southern Wesleyan University.
