Volleyball Secures Two Seed In Conference Carolinas Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team defeated Young Harris 3-0 on Tuesday evening inside the Weisiger Center.
 
With the win the Valkyries secured the two seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas tournament. This is the highest the Valkyries have ever finished in the regular season standings since joining the conference. Converse concludes the regular season with a 21-7 overall record and a 16-4 Conference Carolinas record. The Valkyries also finish with a program best 11-2 home record and they picked up their 12th sweep of the season.
 
Converse opened up the match on an 8-3 run against Young Harris. The Mountain Lions responded to the Valkyries early run and pulled within a pair of points at 10-8. A few moments later the Valkyries were back ahead by a score of 15-9. Trailing, 19-14 Young Harris made a late push and trailed 19-17 to the Valkyries. Converse closed the match on a 6-1 run against Young Harris, winning the opening set 25-18.
 
In the second set Converse jumped out to a 7-2 lead over Young Harris. The Mountain Lions once again responded to the early run and pulled within a point at 9-8 against the Valkyries. A few moments later Converse had extended their lead to 14-9 over Young Harris. Converse cruised to a 25-17 second set win.
 
In the final set, Converse once again opened the period on a 6-0 run against the Mountain Lions. Young Harris rallied and stayed close throughout the early moments of the set. Leading 13-12, Converse used a 10-2 run to take a commanding 23-13 advantage against Young Harris. Converse won the third set by a final score of 25-15.
 
Converse finished with 64 points, 48 kills, 10 aces, 6 blocks, 39 assists and 43 digs. Megan Carpenter led the team with 14 kills, Bree Lyons finished second on the team with 8 kills and Ariel Bryant finished third on the team with 6 kills. Alysha Arroyo led the team in aces (5), blocks (3) and assists (38). Noemia Chiacchio finished with a team best 13 digs against Young Harris.  
 
Next Up:
Converse will have around 11 days off before they play in the second Conference Carolinas semifinals match on November 22nd. First serve is currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m., in Bristol, Tenn.
