SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's and women's tennis teams will host Belmont Abbey on Wednesday afternoon at the Converse tennis courts.
The Converse women's tennis team is 7-8 overall and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas action this season. The Valkyries have lost two straight matches and they are coming off a 5-2 loss to #68 Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon. In doubles action the Valkyries top tandem of
Luiza Estrada and
Tonya Glogowski-Watson are 6-8 overall and 4-3 in conference action. The Valkyries No. 2 doubles duo of
Maria Belen Vendrell and
Marleen Prinz are 4-6 overall and an even 2-2 in conference play.
In singles action the Valkyries top performers are Estrada and Glogowski-Watson, both players have six singles wins at their respective flights. Vendrell and
Valentina Aparicio are both second on the team with five singles wins this season.
The Belmont Abbey women's team is 10-14 overall and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders are just 2-4 away from their home court this season and they are coming off a 4-3 loss to Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon.
The Converse men's team is 9-7 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolinas action this season. The Valkyries are 4-2 at home and they are coming off their first nationally ranked win over #38 Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon. The Valkyries overcame a six-hour marathon and four different rain delays to pull off the upset over the Patriots.
In doubles action the Valkyries have settled on their starting three tandems, the Valkyries No. 1 doubles team of
Leopold Morel and
Louka Queguiner are 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolinas action. At the No. 2 doubles court, the Valkyries team of
Merlin Bellet and
Paul Berrouet have won three straight matches. Bellet and Berrouet are currently 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolinas this season. The Valkyries No. 3 team of
Cameron Davies and
Gregoire Legrand are 5-6 overall and 3-3 in Conference play this season.
In singles action
Merlin Bellet and
Gregoire Legrand have turned it on during conference action this season. Both players hold a 6-1 record in conference this season, while Bellet is 11-3 overall on this season as the Valkyries No. 1 singles player. Berrouet and Davies are both 7-6 overall and have winning records during Conference action at the No. 5 and No. 6 courts respectively. Queguiner and Morel are both tied with three conference wins on the season.
The Belmont Abbey men's team is currently ranked #25 nationally and is 17-16 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play this season. The Crusaders are 7-7 in away games this season, but have won two straight matches following back-to-back wins over Francis Marion and Mount Olive this weekend.
