Box Score 2 WILSON, N.C. – The Converse University tennis programs both lost 5-2 to Barton on Saturday afternoon at the Barton University tennis complex.
In the women's match the Valkyries were swept in doubles action by the Bulldogs. In singles action
Maria Belen Vendrell won at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1 to tie the match at 1-1. Losses at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 advantage.
Luiza Estrada won at the No. 4 court 6-4, 6-1 to draw within a court of Barton.
Marleen Prinz lost in straight sets at the No.3 singles flight and
Tonya Glogowski-Watson lost a tough three-set tiebreak to round out the Valkyries singles action.
On the men's side of the court it was not much better, as the men were also swept in doubles action by Barton.
Merlin Bellet improved to 8-2 overall on the season at the No. 1 singles court with a 6-3, 6-2 win over his opponent on Saturday. Losses at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights gave Barton the match win.
Gregoire Legrand picked up his fourth win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 flight.
Leopold Morel lost a tough three set match at the No. 2 singles flight to round out the Valkyries starting lineup.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will have a few days off before they host both Southern Wesleyan and North Greenville next weekend. The match against Southern Wesleyan will start at 1:00 p.m. at the Converse Tennis Courts.
