Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Converse College (2-13) soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup against Georgia College (10-3-3) on Monday evening at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats scored twice in each half to come away with the 5-0 victory.
Melissa Carlyle and Anna Claire Albritton led the way for the Valkyries with two shots each, while Kayla Noon and Hallie Lycans posted one shot each. Darian Bankston collected nine saves in goal on the night for the Purple and Gold.
After 13 minutes of scoreless action, Georgia College got on the board following a Sofia Lekas goal with 13:22 off the first period clock. Anya Mancinelli doubled the lead just over a minute later with an unassisted score of her own. Noon was presented an opportunity to close the gap, but her shot in the 26th minute was turned away by the GC keeper. Carlyle also had a chance in the 36th minute, but her shot was knocked down as well, sending the Bobcats into the locker room with the 2-0 lead.
The second half mirrored the start of the first with neither team gaining any offensive momentum over the initial 15 minutes of game action. However, Georgia College padded its lead when Sofia Leaks added her second score of the contest in the 60th minute of play. The Bobcats struck once more in the 69th minute after a goal by Unnbjorg Omarsdottir with Leaks providing the assist.
The Valkyries were able to muster only a single shot over the remainder of the contest, while a late goal by Alyssa Bergamini pushed the score out to the final of 5-0 in favor of the Bobcats.
Converse will return to the pitch on Friday, October 26 as it plays host to North Greenville University. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
