Duo of Butler and Beaver Ends Streak For Valkyries

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- Converse Volleyball saw their 18 match losing streak come to an end on Friday afternoon as the Valkyries defeated Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas match in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-20).

Converse (4-21, 1-14) picked up their first Conference Carolinas win of the season behind the duo of Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) and JaLesa Beaver (Katy, Texas).  Butler led the way with a double-double posting 11 kills and 10 digs and hit a career-hgih .421. Butler also had eight service aces which is a single-match record. Beaver posted nine kills and eight digs.

The Valkyries out-hit the Falcons .239 to .230.  Converse posted double-digit kills in all three sets (14-13-13).  Pfeiffer led through most of the first set leading 16-12.  The Valkyries rallied back to tie things at 17-all and 18-all.  A bad Falcon set, a Makaylah Plemmons (Union County, S.C.) followed by a Krislyn Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) service ace gave the Valkyries a 21-18 advantage.  Pfeiffer would pull to within one at 21-20 before a Katie Butler kill, Madeline Pate (Cassatt, S.C.) service ace and a JaLesa Beaver kill gave the Valkyries the 25-20 set victory.

Converse would jump out to a 14-7 lead in the second set and pushed their advantage to 19-11 late in the set.  Pfeiffer would take advantage of eight Valkyrie miscues to cut the lead down to 20-19.  Pfeiffer took the lead at 23-22.  Converse rallied back to tie things at 23-all and 24-all.  A Pfeiffer attacking error and a Krislyn Moore service ace allowed the Valkyries to take a 26-24 set two victory.

Once again the Valkyries jumped out to an early lead at 20-10.  Pfeiffer would rattle off five straight points before Converse stopped the rally at 21-15.  Kills by Cayla Wood (Asheville, N.C.), Aeriel Wheeler (Woodruff, S.C.), Katie Butler and Makaylah Plemmons gave the Valkyries the third set to win the match.

Converse wraps up the 2015 regular season against Belmont Abbey on Saturday, November 7 on the road.
