Men’s Soccer Draws With Nationally Ranked Lees-McRae

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with No. 15 Lees-McRae on Wednesday night at Weisiger Stadium.
 
With tonight's result the Valkyries are now 2-1-2 overall on the season and 1-0-1 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, Lees-McRae is now 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Conference play this season.
 
In the opening half of action, it was a back-and-forth offensive match between the two schools. Lees-McRae attempted seven total shots and Converse attempted six shots in the first half. The Valkyries recorded five shots on goal while the Bobcats attempted just two shots on target. The Valkyries also attempted four corner kicks to the Bobcats two corner attempts. However, in the 34th minute of action Conor O'Gorman connected with Andrea Marrazzo for the first goal of the game.
 
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Valkyries changed tactics and played a more defensive game in the second half. Converse outshot Lees-McRae 3-2 in the second half and each team attempted one shot on goal. Late in the second half, the Bobcats committed a foul in the box and allowed the Valkyries to attempt a penalty kick. Iker Revuelta attempted the penalty and converted on the goal scoring opportunity to tie the match at one.
 
Next up for the Valkyries:
Converse will stay at home and face Ferrum on Saturday evening, kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. start at Weisiger Stadium.
