Sierra Bombard picked up her first win at Converse on Saturday afternoon, as the Valkyries defeated Francis Marion 216.635-211.015.
With the win the Valkyries improve to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas action. Francis Marion drops to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas play. This is the Valkyries third straight win over the Patriots.
In the compulsory event, Francis Marion got off to a hot start winning three out the four heats. The Valkyries lone win in the compulsory event came in the tumbling heat with a score of 4.30. At the end of the opening event the Valkyries trailed 29.85 – 28.10.
Converse excelled in the Acro event as they swept the three heat event. In the five element heat, Converse outscored Francis Marion 8.55-8.40. In the six element heat, Converse won 7.60-5.55 and in the seven element heat, Converse won 7.35-6.30.
The Valkyries began to build upon their lead in the Pyramid event. Converse won the Inversion heat 8.35-8.25 against Francis Marion. In the synchronized pyramid heat, Converse won 9.20-3.90 over the Patriots. Francis Marion won the open pyramid heat, but the Valkyries won the event with a total score of 26.70.
In the toss event the Valkyries were swept in every heat by the Patriots. Francis Marion won the three heat event 24.60-22.35 over the Valkyries. In the Tumbling event, the Valkyries picked up wins in the Trio pass and the Aerial pass heats. Overall, however, Francis Marion won the event 43.525-39.025.
In the final event of the night the Valkyries won the team event with a score of 76.96. Francis Marion with a team even total of 71.09. In total the Valkyries finished with 41.03 points being deducted while Francis Marion had 61.14 points taken off their start value.
The Valkyries will be back in action next weekend in a tri-meet at Coker University. The Valkyries will battle both the Cobras of Coker and Wingate University.
