Men’s Track Finishes Second, Women Finish Third At Conference Championship; Davis Honored As Athlete of the Year

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Devron Davis highlighted the Valkyries' time at the 2025 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships by being named the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The Valkyrie women won three events and the men won five events.

Women's Notes:
  • Senior Eseose Okoduwa set a school, conference and meet record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.48, beating the previous record of 11.53 set in 2019 by Zawadi Brown of Limestone. The previous meet record was held by Brown (2018) and Jharna Alston (2022) of Emmanuel with a time of 11.79. She currently ranks ninth in the country.
  • Okoduwa placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.01, hitting an NCAA provisional mark and setting a school record. She finishes her career as a four-time Conference Carolinas Championship and an 11-time all-conference performer.
  • Graduate senior Jordan Brown won her third consecutive outdoor conference championship in the high jump. Between indoor and outdoor track, Brown has won five titles in the high jump. Sophomore Kamille Cunningham took silver in the high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters. Senior Janyia Pinckney scored six points with a PR of 1.59 meters.
  • Junior Ruth Spijker won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:52.20. It is the second time she has won the event.
  • The Valkyries' quartet of freshman Talaijah Bartley, sophomore Jermyra Bethel, Cunningham and Okoduwa took bronze with a new school record in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.45. This hits an NCAA provisional mark.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Bartley, Bethel, freshman Triniti Muldrow-Green and sophomore Kennedy Wright also took home the bronze medal with a time of 4:00.12.
  • Cunningham took home silver in the heptathlon with a score of 4,338 points, setting a school record in the process. She is the first Valkyrie to break the 4,000-point barrier.
  • Bethel brought home silver in the 400 meters with a time of 56.71. She ran a 56.32 in the preliminary rounds.
  • Sophomore Paisley Stepp placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Her time of 11:57.66 makes her the fourth-fastest woman in the event in school history. Junior Lauren Beatty took home bronze in the 10K with a time of 38:20.75. She finishes her career as a seven-time all-conference performer and a two-time conference champion.
  • Wright took home bronze in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.47, putting her third in the school record book in the event.
  • Freshman Allison Irick brought home silver in her first-ever outdoor championship meet, hitting a mark of 3.29 meters. She now ranks second in the Converse record book behind her coach Kristin Frost.
  • In the triple jump, Pinckney and senior Mackenzie Whiteside both finished the meet with PRs. Pinckney hit a mark of 11.79 meters and Whiteside hit a mark of 11.75 meters, placing them one and two in the Converse record book.
  • Junior Bella Martin rounded out the fielding events with a bronze finish in the hammer throw, hitting a mark of 50.69 meters.
Men's Notes:
  • Junior Devron Davis was named the Track & Field Athlete of the Year by winning gold in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and as part of the 4x100 meter relay team. He set a school, conference and meet record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.29. He posted a new school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.89. He is currently ranked 16th in the 100 meters and 21st in the 200 meters in Division II. Davis is the first Converse athlete to hold a conference and meet record in the 100 meters, breaking the previous record of 10.30 set by Marquett Simmons of Limestone in 2016 and the previous meet record set in 2023 by Justen Burnett of Mount Olive (10.39).
  • Sophomore Dorian Bomar also broke the previous meet record in the 100 meter dash, finishing second behind Davis with a time of 10.37. He finished with a 20.98 in the 200 meter dash, hitting NCAA provisional marks in both events.
  • Senior Gavin McFadden placed third in the 200 meter dash, hitting an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 21.08. He finishes his career as an eight-time all-conference. He was the first Valkyrie in program history to win a medal.
  • Bomar, graduate student Zephaniah Cox Jr., Davis and McFadden combined to set a school, meet and conference record in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 39.79. The previous conference and meet records were held by North Greenville at 40.40 and 40.52 respectively. The group is currently ranked third in all of NCAA Division II.
  • Sophomore Alain Flores led the Valkyries in the distance events with a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters. He finished with a time of 4:04.28. He also won the 5K with a time of 15:13.80. His time in the 5K sets a new school record, passing the record set by Alex Sosa last year.
  • Sophomore Omarion Belton finished second in the long jump with a mark of 7.07 meters. Belton's mark sets a new school record. He also won bronze in the triple jump with a new school record of 14.32 meters.
    • Junior Kaden Gamble finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.89 meters.
  • Sophomore Nick Tibolla and freshman Dre'Keyvan Thomas finished second and third in the 110 meter hurdles. Tibolla hit an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 14.32. The pair ranks first and second in school history in the event and Tibolla is ranked 25th nationally.
    • Senior Donald Medley scored points for the Valkyries as well with a seventh place finish.
  • Freshman Kyan Sapko brought home silver in the 400 meter hurdles in a new school record time of 54.50.
  • Senior Luis Rios Brenas also took home silver in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:42.10. Rios Brenas finishes a stellar career as a three-time all-conference performer.
  • Freshman Jacob Wren continued an impressive freshman season finishing third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.99. Seniors DreQuan Guyton and Nathan Lucy would also run personal bests in their final races. Guyton finished in 1:57.65, dropping two seconds off his personal best. Lucy ran 1:59.67 taking one second off his previous best of 2:00.88.
  • Rounding out the competition, the 4x400 meter relay team of Denard White, Isaac Gilmore, Kyan Sapko and Ryan Glenn ran a new school record of 3:16.79. Glenn concluded his senior campaign as a four-time all conference performer.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships are on May 22-24 at the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado.
